After graduating from the M.K.Čiurionis School of arts in Lithuania, Jonė moved to Lubeck (Germany) where she studied under prof. Barbara Westphal as well as prof. Thomas Riebl in ‘Mozarteum’ (Zalcburg, Austria).

During her studies, Jonė has won multiple prizes at the National and International competitions for Viola, such as ‘Possehl’ Lubeck, Geneva Viola Competition, and the DAAD (Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst), to name a few.

Violist has performed with Bamberger Symphony, Frankfurt HR-Radio orchestra, Frankfurt Opera orchestra, Bonn ‘Beethvenhalle’ orchestra, and the Essen Opera Orchestra. For four years, Jonė was a principal violist at the Duinsburg Philharmonic.

Jonė Kaliūnaitė is currently working on many different projects, doing solo recitals, chamber music recitals, collaborating with chamber music ensembles, including the Manheim String Quartet, Vilnius String Quartet, Amati Ensemble and others. Violist has also worked with musicians like Maksim Vengerov, Zakhar Bron, Ulf Holscher, Tanja Becker-Bender, Eduard Brunner, Dieter Klocker to name a few. 

Her discography includes recordings for Sony and Naxos record companies as well as radio recordings in Germany.

In 1999 – 2005, Jonė tutored in Essen at Folkwang Music Academy, 2013-16 she was honorary professor at the Lithuanian Academy for Music and Theatre. Jonė Kaliūnaitė is currently a professor of Viola at the Saarbrucken Akademy of Music, Germany.
